As a former tech blogger, understanding the impact of tech on human behaviour always fascinated me. But one issue that troubled me was mental health. I sought to find out its link, looking at real-life examples as well as how we could remedy this affliction.
When my piece was published in 2014, my original mission was to highlight the proliferation of mental illnesses associated with tech. But it took me by surprise to find myself receiving emails and comments from people who had been affected by this issue.
So if you take roughly 1.2 billion Facebook users and 450 million people suffering from mental disorders, what do you get? A global pandemic that’s showing no sign of slowing down anytime soon.
It touched me to know that I was helping start the conversation surrounding mental illness, and simply by posting a single blog on mental health I was able to bring a community together to raise awareness on this topic.
Since then, mental health has remained a close subject to me, and I support this in several areas of my work and personal life. As writers, we’re responsible for starting a dialogue – and thanks to our readers, they help us keep the conversation going.
I’d be interested in starting up a separate mental health blog where I’d be interviewing people affected by mental illnesses, and their journey so far. If you’d like to get involved drop me a line and let’s have a chat.
